Identity in Christ
In life, many things try to attach to your identity - things that we put there ourselves, things that society and the environment around us try to attach to us, things that the adversities of life color our viewpoints with, and the perspectives of those closest to us.
When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Who do you see?
For a long time, I had trouble answering this question, which is why I spend so much time talking about it now and helping other women see themselves the way that God sees them. The only way for you to know that is to start with a foundation of God’s truth found in His word.
Here are some scriptures to get you started:
-
So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
-
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.
-
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
-
There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave or free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
-
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
-
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
-
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God - children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
“Never forget Whose you are; daughter of the King.”
Psalms 139:14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
You have to be careful what you allow people to label you because oftentimes we internalize it and start to believe it. But only God can truly define you because He created you.
Don’t stock your value or worth in the opinion of another person. Because guess what? They are broken just like you. Speak God’s truth about who you are and leave the rest to God. You are beautifully and wonderfully made!
Ephesians 4:22-24You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Even when you mess up or make a mistake, don’t let that deter you. Somewhere in there, you are doing good and getting it right. Give yourself a break.
No one is perfect; not one. Keep going. Try harder. Do better. Be better. We are all continual works in progress. God’s still working on us all. Be encouraged today. You've got this. God's got you!
Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."
Never forget Whose you are! You were bought with a price! It doesn’t matter what mistakes you’ve made, things you’ve said or done, or not done, for that matter. None of it negates who you are, and the value that was placed in you even before you were formed in your mother’s womb.
Don’t worry about what others think of you. If they didn’t make you, they can’t break you. If they didn’t create you, they can’t negate you. You belong to God. That means you are covered. You matter! You are loved - unconditionally! You are enough!
Be encouraged today that no matter what happens, your value comes from within! Just Be You - the you that God created you to be. Never forget Whose you are!
